Test Policies

A test policy defines the rules and thresholds that determine whether a well test is considered stable and valid. These policies help ensure consistent and reliable well testing results across your organization.

Default Policy

Well Tested's Default policy is inspired by the American Petroleum Institute (API) standard API STD 53: Well Control Equipment Systems for Drilling Wells.

Custom Policy Configuration

Organizations can customize their test policies to match their specific requirements. You can configure different thresholds for:

  • Low pressure testing
  • High pressure testing
  • Single pressure testing

Each test type has configurable parameters for:

  • Duration (seconds)
  • Stability threshold
  • Acceleration limits
  • Deceleration limits
  • Minimum pressure
  • Maximum pressure

Custom Policy Configuration

Organizations can customize their test policies to match their specific requirements. You can configure different thresholds for:

Low Pressure Testing

  • Default duration: 300 seconds
  • Default stability: 0.5
  • Default acceleration/deceleration: 0.05
  • Default pressure range: 250-350

High Pressure Testing

  • Default duration: 300 seconds
  • Default stability: 0.5
  • Default acceleration/deceleration: 0.05
  • Customizable pressure range

Single Pressure Testing

  • Default duration: 300 seconds
  • Default stability: 0.5
  • Default acceleration/deceleration: 0.05
  • Customizable pressure range

Policy Management

  1. Navigate to your workspace settings
  2. Enable "Use Custom Policy" to modify the default thresholds
  3. Adjust the parameters for each test type as needed
  4. Save your changes to apply the new policy

The system will automatically validate your policy settings before saving. All changes are tracked with timestamps and user attribution for audit purposes.

Best Practices

  • Start with the default policy and adjust based on your specific needs
  • Consider your well's characteristics when setting pressure ranges
  • Ensure stability thresholds are appropriate for your testing conditions
  • Review policy changes with your team before implementation
  • Document any significant deviations from standard practices
